Learning for Life

Our Learning for Life curriculum includes the statutory frameworks of Personal, Social, Health Education (PSHE), Relationships and Sex Health Education (RSHE), and Citizenship and Careers Education Information and Guidance (CEIAG). It is delivered in both a weekly timetabled lesson and tutor time sessions as well as in assemblies and drop-down ‘Experience Events’ as part of our Learning for Life programme. Throughout the Learning for Life curriculum, we aim to help them to be happy, healthy, confident pupils who will be able to stay safe in a rapidly changing society and therefore be able to meet their true potential.

Pupils experience lessons on three main topics: Physical and Mental Well-being; The Wider World and Relationships and Sex Education. Through these topics, our pupils will be prepared and ready to transition to the next stages of their education. Students will be given vital opportunities to think about their futures in either education, the world or work. Pupils will be prepared to be able to self-manage their lives, stay safe in both their immediate and distant futures and be great citizens. Key topics relevant to their age and development will be studied and discussed; pupils will be made aware of any laws related to these subjects. Each year group covers a range of interesting units which develop the wider KASE skills alongside specific themed content.

Students in all year groups 7-11 engage in our RSHE curriculum during their timetable Learning for Life lessons in the Autumn term; thus, to reinforce the importance of this important education area. The Learning for Life curriculum is a cornerstone of learning at Waseley and is covered in the following areas:

  • Assemblies

  • Experience Events

  • Learning for Life sessions during tutor time and timetabled curriculum time

  • Our SMSC/PSHE curriculum in Years 7, 8, 9, 10 & 11.

  • The development of KASE in every lesson
