Open Evening Letter to Prospective Pupils and Parents/Carers

September 2023

Dear Parent / Carer,

I write to invite you to Waseley Hills High School’s Open Evening event between 5.00 - 7.30pm on Thursday 5th  October 2023.  We are very excited to welcome Year 6 pupils and parents/carers onto our school site.  Recently, we announced confirmation of a huge investment project into our school buildings. Although the fabric of our school is going to change significantly, we welcome the opportunity to show potential future members of the school community our school values and culture. The people within our school and its fabulous green environment are what make it a unique and vibrant place to learn. We are a warm and supportive school where pupils thrive thanks to supportive relationships, engaging lessons and clear learning routines.

We aim to provide an atmosphere in which all students can feel safe, gain confidence, and achieve their full potential. A dedicated and hard-working staff team excel in their understanding of young people's needs. Encouragement, recognition and reward are central to our philosophy and can be found in everything we do.  As a member of the Central Regions School Trust, founded by the Royal Society for Arts, we uphold the belief in social justice for all through education and opportunities.

We have a varied and full curriculum which offers pupils the very best opportunities to develop as young people and participate in a wide range of experiences. We develop pupils as experts in a wide range of subjects, whilst also ensuring we allow each individual time to explore a wide range of Personal, Social, Health and Citizenship educational experiences.

To support pupils in the important stage of transition between Primary and Secondary school we have a range of confidence-boosting and supportive strategies:

  • We host an extended transition experience – allowing pupils staggered and supportive exposure to secondary school life and a new environment.
  • Dedicated Head of Year and tutors support pupils in the early days of their secondary school education and beyond.
  • Staggered start to the academic year 2023 to allow Year 7 pupils to explore the school site before other pupils return.
  • Extended lunch times in initial weeks of the new academic year allow Year 7 pupils to purchase food and access the cafeteria before the rest of the school.
  • Transition coordinator – Mr. N. Baker can be contacted directly to support pupils and parents with any concerns throughout Year 6 and into Year 7.

Open Evening format

We hope you can make it to our Open Evening. To support parents and carers, we have developed a series of short videos which can be viewed on our website.  Guests will receive a Head of School welcome from Mr Preston and in addition to meeting our pupils and exploring our school Architects and project managers Tilbury Douglas and Aspens catering will also be available on the evening.
