Edexcel GCSE (9-1) Drama
Component 1: Devising 40% 60 marks
Pupils will create and develop an original devised performance from a choice of stimuli.
Pupils will be assessed on their performance (15 marks) and their analysis and evaluation of the devising process (Coursework portfolio 45 marks)
Component 2 : Performance from text 20% 48 marks
Pupils perform two key extracts from a play. Pupils will choose between monologues, duologues or a group performance
Externally assessed by Visiting Examiner
Pupils have a wide range of texts that they can choose from. However it has to be a different play from Component 3 and a different playwright, genre and time. That still provides plenty of options!
Component 3: Theatre Makers in Practice 40% 60 marks
Written examination 1 hour 30 minutes.
Practical exploration of one complete play: DNA Dennis Kelly.
Live theatre evaluation. Pupils will watch a live performance of their choice: this cannot be a musical or a play from the set list (An Inspector Calls, The Crucible, Government Inspector, Twelfth Night, 1984, DNA, Blue Stockings, DNA, or Dr Korczak’s Example).

Six questions based on an unseen extract from text studied
Section B: Live Theatre Evaluation
Two extended questions requiring pupils to analyse and evaluate a live theatre performance they have seen (Must not be a prescribed text from Component
Guided/Assisted Time for Students:
There are multiple opportunities for students to ‘book’ time for additional support or rehearsal time (e.g. lunchtimes) but it is up to the student to organise themselves and arrange this with a staff member ahead of time.
